In a fashion landscape that often thrives on reinvention, football boots — once relegated strictly to the pitch — are undergoing a major transformation. For Summer 2025, cleats are no longer just for athletes. They’ve been reimagined as statement footwear by Gen Z, luxury designers, and global retailers alike.
From TikTok’s #bootsonlysummer to Louis Vuitton runways, the humble football boot is now fashion’s unlikeliest “it” item.

Football Meets Fashion: From Catwalks to Clicks
Luxury houses like Balenciaga, Koché, and 3.Paradise have already embraced football kits in recent seasons. But the trend hit a new level when football boots themselves took center stage.
- Adidas x Y-3 styled studded cleats with a Japanese national team jersey.
- Louis Vuitton debuted branded boots on a turf-covered runway.
- Prada and Adidas teamed up on a co-branded football boot, blending athletic performance with luxury design.
This crossover signals more than just a trend — it reflects a broader fashion-sport fusion that’s no longer confined to apparel.

Retailers See Spike in Football Boot Demand
According to Zalando’s Matthew Glynn, cleat sales surged during the “back to club” shopping season (July–September), aligning with football’s seasonal restart. Simultaneously, legacy models like the Nike Total90 are resurfacing as lifestyle statements.
Adidas has capitalized on this resurgence by reissuing the F50 silhouette with design tweaks — like a Taekwondo-style tongue, glossy upper, and streamlined sole — to appeal to fashion-savvy buyers.
“We’ve seen massive demand for shoes that blend sport heritage with everyday wear,” said Oliver Brüggen of Adidas. “The F50 Taekwondo is our answer to that.”

#BootsOnlySummer: When Gen Z Goes All In
On TikTok, users are taking things further. The viral #bootsonlysummer trend encourages styling real football cleats with everyday outfits — think denim, cargo shorts, and skirts — no match or training session required.
Spanish pop star Rosalía made headlines wearing white New Balance cleats under a voluminous skirt en route to a Met Gala fitting, pushing the trend into global spotlight.
“Football boots now represent more than sport — they’re expressive, defiant, and deeply personal,” said Glynn.
Studs, Style… and Street Reality
Not everyone’s rushing to wear actual cleats on asphalt, however. According to Sebastian Richter of Zalando’s streetwear team, many wearers quickly realize studs and concrete don’t mix.
In response, brands like Nike and Patta are crafting football-inspired sneakers (like the R9 Mercurial Cyroshot) designed for urban terrain, maintaining aesthetic appeal without compromising practicality.
Meanwhile, DIY culture has kicked in. On Instagram, vintage cleats are being modified into hybrid street shoes — some with loafer soles, others with plastic-covered studs for everyday comfort.

Is This the Peak of the Football Fashion Trend?
As Pitti Uomo and SS25 menswear season ramp up, fashion insiders are watching closely. Will cleats remain a viral flash or evolve into a new footwear staple?
One thing’s clear: the lines between sport and style have never been blurrier — and the streets this summer belong to football boots, whether studded, stripped down, or reinterpreted entirely.
